Bridesmaids Dresses a Part of Rite of Passage in a Woman’s Life

Any woman who has ever stood up for a friend in her wedding knows that the worst aspect of taking part in a friend’s wedding is the bridesmaids dresses.

It’s not often you come across attractive bridesmaids dresses, which makes sense if you look at it from the point of view of the bride. She is the princess for the day and she should not be outshined by her maids. Therefore it has become tradition that on the day of her wedding, a girl’s best friends will be standing there beside her in their ugly bridesmaids dresses.

The financial aspect is also a blow to the bridesmaid.

Who wants to spend hundreds of dollars on a dress that they didn’t pick out and probably doesn’t even flatter their body? If bridesmaids dresses were cheap it would be one thing, but they are usually purchased from a bridal shop and any store that sells specialty clothes is going to be expensive. But even if the bride picks her bridesmaids dresses from a great designer, it still probably won’t be the exact color or style that you would have chosen for yourself.

Bridesmaids dresses are formal gowns so they usually will not fit a woman perfectly straight from the rack and they often have to be altered.

And here is a little secret that no one will tell you until you’re all there in the shop, standing in your ill-fitting bridesmaids dresses in front of a woman sticking pins all over the material to decide where they need to be altered: Alterations can end up costing more than the dress!

There is also the chilling knowledge that every bridesmaid must come to terms with.

Not only will you have to wear your dress in public for the duration of the ceremony and reception, your picture will be taken hundreds of times. And if the bride is in your family, you may even have to see pictures of yourself wearing ugly bridesmaids dresses because the wedding pictures will become a part of the family album.

Being a bridesmaid is a rite of passage in a woman’s life.

We all have to wear the bridemaids dresses until one day it is our turn to be the bride. It is then that we can exact revenge by making brides of the past wear the bridesmaids dresses that we pick so that we will look even more lovely in comparison on our special day.

Do you have any contacts for women who have worn ugly bridesmaid dresses within the last 2 years (are you one of them)? I'm working for a national talk show, and we're trying to put a funny segment together. Let me know if you have anything for me. Respond to dramsay@kingworld.com...Thanks!!!
